MSO CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS EXCEED $15MIL IN
ECONOMIC IMPACT ON COMMUNITY
Airport breaks ground on Second Phase of new Air Traffic Control Tower
MISSOULA, MT. (May 3, 2011).Excavators break ground today at Missoula International Airport for the actual building construction of the new Air Traffic Control Tower. The first phase, the infrastructure development which included sewer and water lines, was completed in December, 2010 by Knife River’s Missoula operations. Local construction company, Jackson Contractor Group, received the project bid for the Tower’s building construction. Mark Kobos, Vice President, Jackson Contractor Group, stated "We're very pleased to be awarded this high-profile project. We're especially looking forward to working with the Airport staff and bringing our can-do construction approach to the working relationship." Managed by the Missoula office of engineering firm, Morrison Maierle, the $6.7mil Tower construction project is scheduled for completion in 2012.
Additional projects assigned to Summer, 2011, include:
- Rehabilitate Runway 7/25 and Upgrade Signs
- Security Improvements including Gates, Closed Circuit Televisions, Access Control and Alarm Management Systems
- Procure a new Loader and Ramp Plow for Airfield Snow Removal
- Reconstruction of center of Taxiway ‘G’
- Construct a computer-based Interactive Training Facility
- New Exit Security Revolving Doors
- Terminal building entrance Sidewalk Rehabilitation project
- Rehabilitate Rental Car Parking Lot
- Replace Automated Car Wash mechanical equipment
- Construct new Cellular Phone/Waiting Parking Lot
Brian Ellestad, MSO’s new Deputy Director, stated “The Airport does not receive any local tax revenue. The projects, funded by federal grants, passenger facility charges, and Airport reserves, will total over $15 million in construction dollars for the community.” Ellestad added, “The new projects and updates will enhance the Airport’s safety, security, and efficiency.”
Currently four airlines, Alaska/Horizon, Delta, United, and Allegiant, have operations at the Missoula International Airport.
