Disabled Assistance

Missoula International Airport is dedicated to providing for the needs of our travelers with disabilities. Our airport is barrier free, with wheelchair accessibility to all areas of the terminal building and offers a variety of accessibility features
.

Planning Your Trip

When making reservations for travel, tell your travel agent, airline, hotel and car rental agent about any specific accommodations you may require and confirm 24 hours prior to leaving. Most airlines have agents who can assist you with check-in and arrange for passenger assistance between the curb, ticket counter, boarding area and plane. If you need supplemental medical oxygen while traveling, confirm availability with your airline directly.

For more information on passengers with disabilities' rights under the Air Carriers Access Act, refer to the US Department of Transportation’s New Horizons: Information for the Air Traveler with a Disability
.

Security measures restrict public access beyond passenger screening to ticketed passengers only. However, airlines will allow persons with special needs to be accompanied by health care assistants or guardians. If a friend or family member wants to accompany an elderly or disabled person to or from the aircraft gate, they need to obtain permission from the airline.

Parking at Missoula International Airport

For your convenience, there are reserved parking spaces for travelers with disabilities in the short- term parking lots closest to the terminal, as well as in the long term lots. To park in these reserved spaces, official license plates bearing the disabled designation, rear view mirror tag, or other official documents issued by a municipality or state of residence must be prominently displayed.

Coming to Missoula International Airport? Just look for this easily recognizable sign for ADA accessible parking and easy access to the main passenger terminal.

For more information, call Republic Parking at (406) 543-8631

Arriving and Departing Passengers

Departing - Curbside unloading areas for baggage and passengers are available at the terminal. Airline agents are available to assist you in getting your luggage to the check-in area. Please make arrangements with your airline 24 hours in advance for assistance with baggage check-in, ticketing and movement to the gate area.

Arriving - Please make arrangements with your airline 24 hours in advance for assistance in getting to the bag claim areas. Airline agents are available to help with your luggage.

If a friend, family member or business associate will be driving to the airport to meet you, please understand that they will not be allowed to park and leave their vehicle unattended at the curb front for your arrival. It may be more convenient for your greeter to park in a short term lot and meet you in the baggage claim area.

Cars standing (not actively loading or unloading at the curb fronts) will be ticketed and unattended cars may be towed at the owner’s expense.

Ground Transportation

All ground transportation services, including taxis, limousines, hotel and car rental shuttles, and busses, are located on the outside lower level curb in front of the main terminal building.

Getting Around the Terminal

Terminal Directional Signs - Signs indicating the locations of specific facilities and services are located throughout the terminal building at Missoula International Airport. All signs have contrasting colors and meet width and height guidelines. Tactile markers are located in all elevators and on the ATM machines.

Public Phones - Public telephones are located throughout both levels of the passenger terminal complex and are wheelchair accessible. There is a TTY telephone located on the main floor of the airport.

Security Screening- All passengers must pass through security check points regardless of their disability. Checkpoints are operated by the federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Only ticketed passengers with boarding passes are allowed beyond the security checkpoints. If a traveler with a disability needs assistance or special clearance to allow medical equipment or services to go beyond the security checkpoint to assist with boarding or deplaning please make arrangements with your airline directly.

Passengers with wheelchairs, hearing aids, cochlear implants, service dogs or other aids should alert Security Personnel at the checkpoint to their equipment and follow their instructions.

If an individual with a disability is able to pass through the security system without activating it, the person shall not be subject to special screening procedures. Security personnel are free to examine an assistive device that they believe is capable of concealing a weapon or other prohibited item.

If an individual with a disability is not able to pass through the system without activating it, the person will be subject to further screening in the same manner as any other passenger activating the system. Security screening personnel may employ a hand-held device that will allow them to complete the screening without having to physically search the individual. If this method is still unable to clear the individual and a physical search becomes necessary, then at the passenger's request, the search must be done in private. If a passenger requests a private screening in a timely manner, the carrier must provide it in time for the passenger to board the aircraft.

Emergency Services - In the event of an emergency dial 911 from any airport phone. Calling 911 from a personal cell phone will connect you with City of Missoula emergency services. The Airport Terminal Building is equipped with strobe lights for the hearing impaired when a fire alarm is activated.

Restrooms - All washrooms at Missoula International Airport are wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair accessible washrooms are located in or near the following areas:

• Check-In/Ticket Counters
• Main Terminal Lobby
• Departure Level Gates
